Lucia Caminos is one of GTA 6’s two playable protagonists, alongside her partner Jason Duval. Rockstar describes her as a born fighter whose loyalty to her family put her in Leonida Penitentiary, and who now wants the better life her mother always hoped for. (Confirmed by Rockstar)
Lucia was the first thing we saw of GTA 6: the opening shot of the first trailer showed her in a prison cell. Here’s everything Rockstar has officially confirmed about her, with nothing taken from leaks.
Who is Lucia Caminos?
Lucia is one half of the couple at the centre of GTA 6. Rockstar’s tagline for the game sums up their situation: Jason and Lucia “have always known the deck is stacked against them.” (Confirmed)
Her official character profile tells us four things:
- She learned to fight early. Rockstar says her father taught her to fight from a very young age.
- She has done time. Standing up for her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary, and Rockstar says luck, more than anything, got her out.
- Her family’s roots are in Liberty City. She wants the comfortable life her mother has dreamed of since their Liberty City days.
- She’s done with careless mistakes. She has learned her lesson and plans to make only smart moves from now on.
(Confirmed, from Rockstar’s character profile)
What the trailers show
The official trailers add more detail (Confirmed):
- Leaving prison, and meeting a correctional social worker
- Training in a boxing gym
- Riding a motorcycle and out in Vice City’s nightlife
- Working alongside Jason, including a store robbery
Lucia and Jason
Lucia’s story is tied to Jason Duval, GTA 6’s other playable character. Rockstar presents them as a couple who take on bigger and riskier jobs together, and their story spreads across the state of Leonida. How you switch between them, and how much of the game each one leads, hasn’t been detailed yet. (Story setup confirmed; details not confirmed)
Why Lucia matters for the series
Lucia is the first female lead in a mainline GTA game since the series moved to 3D. Her background also links GTA 6’s new state to the wider series: Liberty City has been a GTA setting since the very first game.
What we don’t know yet
- Who plays and voices Lucia (Rockstar hasn’t officially named her actor)
- Exactly what put her in prison
- How much of the story you play as Lucia rather than Jason
Our take: Lucia’s profile reads like someone with more to lose than the usual GTA lead: a family to provide for and a prison record behind her. That gives GTA 6 the chance to tell a more personal crime story than GTA 5 did. We’ll know for sure on 19 November.
