Where to watch the GTA 6 gameplay video
The Extended Look premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 and went up on Rockstar’s YouTube channel about six hours later. It’s 26 minutes long and made of gameplay rather than cutscenes. Rockstar’s other announcements are on the Rockstar Newswire.
1–2. Switching between Jason and Lucia
- Character switching (about 18:41): the game switches from one lead to the other during a car chase, as GTA 5 did with its three characters.
- Brian’s job offer (about 10:50): Brian Heder offers the pair a job at a rooftop bar in downtown Vice City.
More on both leads and Brian in our GTA 6 characters guide.
3–4. The six-star wanted level
- Six stars (about 14:00): a chase with a police helicopter shows the wanted meter reaching six stars. GTA 5 stopped at five. (Confirmed)
- Wanted icons (about 14:01): small icons next to the stars show what the police know, such as your outfit or your car.
We explain how it works in our GTA 6 wanted system guide.
5–10. GTA 6 gameplay: robberies and combat
[IN-BODY IMAGE]
- Breaking into cars (about 6:07): Jason uses a slim-jim tool with a timed meter instead of smashing the window.
- Face coverings (about 17:50): chosen from an item wheel before a robbery.
- Concealed weapons (about 17:57): characters hide guns behind their backs before walking into a store.
- One-handed shooting (about 9:21): Lucia fires a shotgun while carrying a bag.
- Picking up weapons (about 25:07): Jason grabs an enemy’s rifle in an office shootout.
- Slow motion (about 25:11): a slow-motion shot and a final killcam, which fans have compared to Max Payne 3.
11–14. The phone, map and screen
- 3D map (about 8:00): the corner map shows 3D buildings, which makes finding your way easier.
- Status icons (about 14:01): health, outfit and vehicle condition, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Livestream feed (about 18:24): opens during a chase with a hostage in the boot, part of the game’s social media parody.
- Binoculars (about 17:28): used to look into windows.
15–16. Activities shown
- Sports and races: basketball, dirt bike and stock car racing, target practice.
- Outdoors and fitness: scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, a bench press and backyard wrestling (about 9:26).
Where these happen is covered in our GTA 6 map guide.
17–20. What hands-on previews added
After the video, some outlets and creators played the game at Rockstar North. These points come from their reports, not the video (Reported):
- About 80 hours: Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said his latest playthrough of the story and side content took that long.
- Criminal Profile: a system that tracks how you behave, replacing Red Dead Redemption 2’s honour system.
- Shared safehouse: Jason and Lucia share one home base, which you can customise.
- 30 fps on PS5: one creator reported this for the standard PS5. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it. More in GTA 6 PS5 or Xbox.
What the GTA 6 gameplay video didn’t show
The Extended Look didn’t cover GTA 6’s online mode, a PC version or the full map. (Not shown) For PC news, see Will GTA 6 be on PC?
My take
Watching the Extended Look felt like the moment the wait was almost over. Seeing real gameplay, switching between Jason and Lucia and the busy streets of Vice City, made the 12-year wait feel worth it. This is how a game should be shown: by Rockstar, polished, the way they want us to see it. Not through leaked clips. I’ve rewatched parts of it more times than I can count.
