GTA 6 Weapons: 9 Types of Guns Rockstar Has Shown So Far

Share

Rockstar hasn’t released a full GTA 6 weapons list yet. (Not confirmed) Across the two trailers, the official screenshots and the Extended Look, it has shown 9 types of weapon: pistols, revolvers, SMGs, assault rifles, shotguns, hunting rifles, a light machine gun, a grenade launcher and throwables like the Molotov. (Confirmed, shown) Five guns have official names so far.

Where this list comes from: only Rockstar’s own material. That means Trailer 1 (December 2023), Trailer 2 (May 2025), the official screenshots, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look (August 2026) and Rockstar’s Ultimate Edition listing. No leaks and no fan-made names.

GTA 6 weapons have appeared in almost every piece of footage Rockstar has released, from Jason and Lucia’s store robbery in Trailer 1 to the full shootouts in the Extended Look. This list sorts every gun type by the scene it appears in, so you can check each one yourself. I’ll update it every time Rockstar shows something new.

GTA 6 weapons Rockstar has officially named

Rockstar has named five guns so far: three in its Ultimate Edition listing and two on pickup prompts in the Extended Look. (Confirmed)

All 9 GTA 6 weapon types shown so far

Every type below appears in Rockstar’s own trailers, screenshots or Extended Look footage. (Confirmed, shown)

  1. Pistols. Jason and Lucia both hold pistols in the store robbery at the end of Trailer 1. In the Extended Look, a pistol sits in the weapon wheel with its ammo count (20/80) on screen.
  2. Revolvers. The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers are a matching pair in the Ultimate Edition.
  3. SMGs. An MP5-style SMG appears in Trailer 2, and compact SMGs hang on the Ammu-Nation wall.
  4. Assault rifles. Jason Duval picks up the Duke 556 Assault Rifle from the ground in the middle of a fight in the Extended Look. AK-style rifles also sit on the Ammu-Nation wall.
  5. Shotguns. The Moreland 850 Shotgun has its own pickup prompt in the Extended Look. Pump-action shotguns are on the Ammu-Nation wall, and a hunter aims a double-barrel shotgun at an alligator in an official screenshot.
  6. Hunting and sniper rifles. Hunters and poachers carry scoped bolt-action rifles in the official screenshots of Leonida’s wild areas. See where these places sit on our GTA 6 map guide.
  7. Light machine gun. The Ammu-Nation owner holds a belt-fed light machine gun in Trailer 2, and more sit on the display wall behind him.
  8. Grenade launcher. Lucia Caminos fires an automatic grenade launcher during a police chase in Trailer 2.
  9. Throwables. The Extended Look’s weapon wheel shows a Molotov in the explosives slot.

Fists count too. The weapon wheel has an “Unarmed” slot, and Lucia fights bare-knuckle in Trailer 2. (Shown) No melee weapon has an official name yet. (Not confirmed)

GTA 6 weapons

The GTA 6 weapon wheel now has Weapons and Items tabs

The GTA 6 weapon wheel is split into two tabs, Weapons and Items, and you switch between them with R1 on PlayStation. (Confirmed, shown) The Weapons tab holds guns, throwables and the Unarmed slot. Health items show up separately in the bottom-left corner with a count next to each.

Previews report that the Weapons tab has eight slots and that some items are shared between Jason and Lucia. (Reported) Rockstar hasn’t explained how the Items tab works in full. (Not confirmed)

How many GTA 6 weapons can you carry?

You can’t carry every gun at once any more. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said in a preview interview: “You can always have two concealed handguns on you whenever you want.” (Confirmed)

  • Long guns: up to two, one on your back and one in your hand. (Reported)
  • The rest: stored in vehicles, and only your personal vehicle keeps your full loadout. (Reported)
  • People react: a long gun in your hand makes people move away. (Confirmed) Police can also warn you. (Reported) That ties straight into the new GTA 6 wanted system.

How shooting feels in GTA 6, from the preview

Rockstar showed press a hands-off demo played by Rob Nelson, and the reports agree on a few points. (Reported)

  • Less lock-on: the default aim has less lock-on than earlier GTA games, and you can tune aim assist in the options.
  • Focus: a slow-down mode marks lethal spots in red and spots that only take someone down in yellow.
  • Hit markers: white for a hit, yellow for a takedown, red for a kill.
  • Melee: you can hold a block and time a parry.
  • Sharing guns: Jason and Lucia can hand weapons to each other.
  • Customisation: magazines, attachments, tints and liveries.

What we still don’t know about GTA 6 weapons

  • The full weapon list and the total number of guns (Not confirmed)
  • Whether ammo is more limited than in GTA 5 (Not confirmed)
  • Official names for any melee weapons (Not confirmed)
  • How buying guns at Ammu-Nation works, and what they cost (Not confirmed)

My take

I’ve played GTA since Vice City, and Ammu-Nation has always been part of the fun for me. Seeing that wall of guns again in Trailer 2 felt like coming home. What excites me more is that every gun now has weight. In GTA 5 I carried everything and never thought about it. In RDR2, choosing my guns before a mission made every fight feel like mine, and GTA 6 is clearly going the same way. I’m also glad Rockstar is showing real names on screen, like the Duke 556, because it means the full list is coming. I’ll keep adding to this page as soon as Rockstar shows more.
