Jason Duval is GTA 6’s male protagonist and Lucia’s partner. Rockstar says he grew up surrounded by small-time criminals, joined the Army to escape a troubled youth, and ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners. (Confirmed by Rockstar)
If Lucia is the fighter, Jason is the one who keeps looking for an easy way out and never quite finds it. Here’s his official backstory and what the trailers show, with nothing taken from leaks.

Who is Jason Duval?
Jason is one of GTA 6’s two playable characters. His official Rockstar profile says (Confirmed):
- He wants an easy life, but it keeps getting harder.
- He grew up around con artists and crooks.
- He joined the Army to put a troubled adolescence behind him.
- He drifted into the Leonida Keys afterwards, working for local drug runners, the kind of work he already knew.
- Rockstar hints it may be time for him to try something new, which is where Lucia comes in.
Jason and Brian Heder
Jason’s ties to the Keys run through Brian Heder, a veteran drug runner with his own official profile. Jason lives rent-free in one of Brian’s properties and, in return, helps him with shakedowns. (Confirmed, from Brian Heder’s profile)

What the trailers show
(Confirmed, from official trailers)
- Driving with Lucia in what looks like a getaway
- Holding up a liquor store alongside Lucia
- Fishing with his friend Cal Hampton, another official character
Jason and Lucia
Jason and Lucia are a couple, and GTA 6’s story follows both of them. Rockstar’s tagline says they “have always known the deck is stacked against them.” How you switch between them, and how much of the story each one leads, hasn’t been detailed yet. (Story setup confirmed; details not confirmed) For her side of the story, read our guide to Lucia Caminos.
How Jason compares with past GTA leads
Jason fits a familiar GTA mould with a twist. Like Niko Bellic in GTA 4, he has a military past he’s trying to move on from. Like Franklin in GTA 5, he’s stuck doing low-level work for other criminals and wants more. The difference is that his story is shared with a partner from the start.
What we don’t know yet
- Who plays and voices Jason (Rockstar hasn’t officially named the actor)
- What happened during his time in the Army
- How he and Lucia met
Some of these questions are the subject of leaked footage. We don’t use leaks as a source; here’s why.
Lucia Caminos in GTA 6: Everything Rockstar Has Confirmed
Our take: Jason’s “just wants an easy life” profile is a smart contrast with Lucia’s drive. If Rockstar plays the two off each other well, the partnership could be the strongest story hook in the series. We’ll find out on 19 November.
