Why there’s no GTA 6 PS4 version
Rockstar built GTA 6 for current consoles only. It hasn’t explained the decision in detail, but the game itself shows why: a huge, busy map, dense crowds and traffic, and lighting that older hardware would struggle to run.
The PS4 came out in 2013, the same year as GTA 5. It’s a full console generation behind the PS5 in what developers can do. There’s no sign of a cut-down GTA 6 PS4 release, and we wouldn’t expect one.
Will GTA 6 come to PS4 later?
Very unlikely. Rockstar has said nothing about older consoles, and big games made for PS5 almost never come back to PS4 years later. If you’re waiting for a GTA 6 PS4 version, it’s better to plan for a new console. The same goes for Xbox One.
Is GTA 6 on mobile?
No. There’s no GTA 6 for Android or iPhone, and Rockstar hasn’t announced one. (Confirmed)
This matters because fake “GTA 6 mobile” downloads are everywhere, especially on YouTube and in search results in India. They’re either a different game, an advert trap, or malware. If a site asks you to download an APK or “verify” by installing other apps, close it. Rockstar’s support site is the place to check if you’re unsure.
The only official GTA 6 listings are on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox store and the Rockstar Store. We list them in our GTA 6 price in India guide.
What about Nintendo Switch 2?
Rockstar hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version. (Not announced) Some reports suggest the hardware isn’t powerful enough for GTA 6 as it is, but that’s speculation. We’ll update this page if anything changes.
What about PC?
No PC version at launch. Rockstar has brought its big console games to PC later before, which is why most players expect one eventually. We cover everything Take-Two has said in Will GTA 6 be on PC?
GTA 6 PS4 owners: what should you do?
You’ll need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S to play GTA 6. Your options:
- Upgrade to a PS5. Your PS4 games and saves mostly carry over. See Sony’s PS5 page.
- Buy an Xbox Series S. The cheapest way to play GTA 6.
- Wait for PC. No date yet, so this could be a long wait.

My take
I get why PS4 players are disappointed. GTA 5 ran on old consoles and that’s where many of us played it first. But a world this detailed simply needs new hardware, and I’d rather Rockstar build the best possible game than cut it down. Please don’t fall for fake “GTA 6 APK” or mobile downloads. They’re scams. If you can, save up for a PS5 or Xbox Series. This is the game worth upgrading for.
